Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Announces Reese Sorrow as Athlete of the Month

Athens, Ga. (April 9, 2025) – Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine is proud to announce Reese Sorrow as the Athlete of the Month for April 2025. Sorrow’s return to baseball following an ACL injury and reconstruction surgery demonstrates resilience, dedication and the spirit of athletic excellence.

Sorrow, a junior at East Jackson High School and standout baseball player, faced a challenging setback when he sustained an ACL injury during his sophomore year. Undergoing a rigorous rehabilitation process, Sorrow demonstrated unwavering commitment and determination throughout his entire recovery process, focused on returning to the sport he loves.

"Reese demonstrated every day his commitment to recovering from this injury, always showing up for his rehab ready to work,” explained Ryan Bussell, the Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine athletic trainer who works solely with East Jackson High School student athletes. “His goal was to regain full range of motion along with strength and stability in the knee. No matter how hard the exercises were, Reese kept working and pushing himself to get back to playing condition.”

Sorrow is one year post-op and passed his return-to-play test before the start of the 2025 baseball season. He is back in the infield for the East Jackson Eagles, committed to playing his best for his team.

The Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic Sports Medicine team established the Athlete of the Month program to recognize the dedication of student athletes in the area. Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine provides outstanding care and support to athletes at all levels, and Sorrow's story is an example of what can be achieved with determination and expert medical care.

"The athletes we support are truly exceptional, overcoming significant challenges to return to their sports after injuries or illnesses," said Katie Terrell, athletic trainer and outreach coordinator for the hospital’s sports medicine program. "This award was established to recognize their dedication and hard work in our sports medicine rehab program. We are delighted to work with student athletes from middle school through college and into adulthood. Our athletic trainers and therapists, with their advanced training in sports medicine, are committed to helping student athletes stay active and excel in their sports."

As Athlete of the Month, Sorrow received a certificate and is now featured at the Orthopedic Sports Medicine facility on Piedmont’s Oconee Health Campus in Watkinsville, GA.
