Macon, Ga. (April 10, 2025) – April is Donate Life Month, and Piedmont Macon Medical Center and Piedmont Macon North Hospital are both raising the Donate Life flag on Thursday, April 10 to promote organ donations in the midstate.
The flag-raising ceremony at Piedmont Macon North is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the Piedmont Macon Medical ceremony at noon.
Nationally, more than 109,000 people – including 4,700 Georgians – are on the transplant waiting list, according to the LifeLink Foundation, which advocates for organ and tissue donations. Throughout April, people are encouraged to learn more about donation through programs offered by LifeLink and by registering through Georgia’s organ, eye and tissue donor registry.
Anyone can be a potential donor, regardless of age or medical history, according to LifeLink. A single donor can save up to eight lives with organ donations and make a difference in as many as 75 lives through tissue donation. Visit LifeLinkFoundation.org or call 800.544.6667 for additional information about organ and tissue donation.
Elizabeth Larkins, chief nursing officer at Piedmont Macon, is a champion for organ donation and encourages the public, including Piedmont Macon employees, to register to become donors.
“Becoming an organ donor is one of the most profound gifts we can give – a legacy of life that honors not only our own but also the lives of others,” Larkins said. “In giving the gift of life, we are reminded that the most precious part of us can continue to help others long after we are gone.”
