Macon, Ga. (April 17, 2025) – Sam Atallah, M.D., an accomplished physician whose innovative techniques transformed colorectal surgeries across the medical field, is now practicing at Piedmont Macon Medical Center.
Dr. Atallah joined the Piedmont Physician Surgical Specialists Macon practice this week. The practice, located at Piedmont Macon, provides Middle Georgians with a new level of colorectal expertise, including robotic and minimally invasive surgeries, and enhances Piedmont’s overall offerings in Macon.
Dr. Atallah relocated to Macon from Orlando, where he was named a “Top Doc” by Orlando Magazine annually from 2011 through 2024. The author of three medical textbooks and more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications, Dr. Atallah is internationally recognized for his innovative approaches to colon and rectal surgery. He is the co-creator of Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS), which allows for the removal of rectal tumors without making any abdominal incisions.
Additionally, he has trained hundreds of surgeons in not only the United States but also in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia. Dr. Atallah is double board-certified in general and colorectal surgery.
In practice since 2007, Dr. Atallah completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston with special training at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He completed his fellowship training at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. In 2021, Dr. Atallah graduated from the Surgical Leadership Program at Harvard Medical School. He is a member of several surgical societies and is the chair of the New Technology Committee at the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
