Macon, Ga. (April 17, 2025) – A mobile PET/CT scanner, which offers early and accurate detection of cancer, is now available by appointment two days each week at Piedmont Macon Medical Center.
“Having PET scan services right here at Piedmont Macon Medical means our community doesn’t have to travel far for advanced cancer imaging. It brings peace of mind knowing that early detection and precise diagnosis are available close to home, with the care and compassion you expect from Piedmont,” said Jay Montero, director of Imaging Services at Piedmont Macon. “We’re proud to offer this life-saving technology to the people of Macon, because your health deserves the very best, right where you live.”
Positron emission tomography (PET) and computerized tomography (CT) are both state-of-the-art imaging tools that allow physicians to pinpoint the location of cancer within the body before making treatment recommendations.
Each scan records a different part of the body, providing a complete picture of the tumor’s location, size and shape. For oncology patients, PET/CT can determine the exact location and stage of cancerous tissue, which helps prevent unnecessary surgery and biopsies and avoids inappropriate treatments.
The mobile PET/CT service will be on-site at Piedmont Macon Medical Center every Thursday and Friday, not including holidays. A physician referral is required for PET/CT scans.
